Dogs and other animals live in harmony here!
One of the most frequent questions asked by travellers is where can I take my dog on the beach? Or where’s the local park to let my dog have a run?
As more of us decide to take the family dog with us on holidays instead of leaving them at home or in foreign surroundings without you, it seems there are actually less places you can take your best mate.
New strict laws are in place across Australia for animals in public places. Big fines can be issued if they are found without collars, not on leads or stray onto private land.
While these laws come with good reason, most people just want somewhere open to throw a ball and let their pooches stretch their legs. And do so everyday without any problems or incidents.

South Australia is blessed with many such open spaces and nearly 90 official off lead parks or beaches for your dogs to play as they like, without restraint.
All along our coast you can find long beaches your dog can run until their content. These are clearly marked with signs and information boards for owners to see in most car parks.
Should you find you’re in a town that doesn’t have an officially listed off lead park, if you ask a local we’re sure they can direct you to an area of grass or oval suitable for you.
Some isolated beaches are not marked where you will need to use your discretion, with due respect to the environment and any other people in the vicinity. Again asking if you’re unsure and then clean up after your animals is the right thing to do.
Dogs are not permitted in National Parks, however there are certain parks in SA where dogs are permitted. For a full list of these click here.
We simply must respect the land and the wildlife that calls it their home. If for example there are shore birds that need protection from dogs, signs will be in appropriate places to warn you.
Picking up after your animals is easy, our pet friendly areas provide plenty of doggy bags and bins to maintain a clean environment for all.
For information regarding dog friendly areas in each Council open here.
We want you and your pets to have the best memories while in SA!
